Most high schoolers hand in assignments, some hand over notes from teacher to parent, and then there is the rare genius who hand-delivers an invoice for emotional labor, complete with a logo on top. 

I was a very difficult kid, and I really don't envy my high school teachers, middle school teachers, or elementary school teachers, to be honest. I was always the 'has so much potential' kid who didn't bother coming to class, barely showed up, and could not sit still when actually present. But, and that's a very big but, in my opinion, I was always polite, never bad-mannered, and never ever entitled or condescending. Or at least never entitled enough to treat a teacher like customer support for my own laziness. That is why it takes a very special breed of brat to grow into the student in this story.  

You can feel the customer mindset all over this kid. School as a service. Teacher as employee. Deadlines as suggestions. The work is optional, but the accommodations are not. He ignores reminders, skips checkpoints, and then acts like the grade is a billing error. Suddenly, time spent thinking about maybe doing the project is considered work.

  • Now, without condoning his behavior, you gotta admit the invoice thing is pretty genius. I mean, at least he's not just being an entitled brat but a creative and funny entitled brat. Handing a teacher an invoice takes courage. And at least here, he made an effort: Dragon logo. Consulting services. Documentation. Accusations of destroying evidence. He is not just avoiding accountability, he is branding it. And somewhere in that classroom, a tired adult is trying to hold a straight face while being told to process payment.

    daydreamer19861986 I'd tell him that he needs to research employment and laws around that, you are not employed by him neither is he employed by you therefore you don't owe him any money. The kid is trying to be smart whist showcasing how little he actually understands about life. Also I seriously think this warrants talking to his parents and head of school at this point. This little dude is trying to bully and intimidate a teacher, being very disrespectful.

    Prometheus_DownUnder As a former university lecturer, I was amazed at the attitude of some students during the last few years of my teaching career. Some would put more energy into justifying a lack of effort or appealing their laziness than it would have taken to get a passing grade. The level of entitlement was staggering and eventually robbed me of the joy of teaching.

    Dubiousgoober Kids need to be held accountable. He wasn't accountable for his lack of action on a deadline and grades reflected that lack of action. Parents who allow this can fuck off. Those parents are raising and delivering bad behaviors and bad people to society that will cause later problems for everyone. The disrespect here in this child's behavior is immensely disturbing.
